Named after the indigenous Sagomore or chief of the Toquam Indians that fished these waters for centuries before the arrival of the Eurpoeans, The Ponus Yacht Club was founded by Ike Miller and friends in 1911.  The club started as a humble shelter on the banks of the western branch of the Stamford Harbor.  98 years later the location is the same but the clubhouse has grown into the modern facility that stands today.  Under the leadership of past commodores the members have added flooding docks with water and electricity that can accommodate 70 boats ranging from 5 to 100 feet.  They restored the deck overlooking the marine in 2010.  The current facility has an ample bar, a dining room and banquet room.
